Rob Cassir from Tiger to Hawk

Rob Cassir – Team Hawks Player Profile

Suiting up for his first season with Team Hawks, Rob Cassir is excited about their progress to date as well as what lies ahead. With solid preparation under his belt as a Wildcats development player, Cassir is already in good form and will no doubt build on this as the season progresses.

 Age: 21

Nickname: Rob...nothing else has ever really stuck.

Work/Study? Studying Mechanical Engineering and Commerce at UWA. Also work part-time as a salesman at JB HiFi and as a casual at Kickz101.

Why basketball? When I was young I would go and watch my Dad play. So I was exposed to it at a young age and it’s the only sport I’ve ever really played.

How long have you been playing? Started out when I was 6 or 7, so about 15 years.

How have you found the season so far? It’s been a lot of fun! The playing group all get along really well and you can see that reflected in our chemistry on the court. Coach has implemented a great system, which has already proven to be very successful. It’s an exciting brand of basketball to play, and everyone has really bought into the whole system and culture. I look forward to seeing where this season will take us as we continue to improve throughout the year!

Favourite players? Growing up I was (like most people) a big fan of Michael Jordan because of his determination to win and the way he tried to dominate every game. I also admired Allen Iverson, because of his relentlessness and his ability to score despite the fact that he was usually one of the smallest guys on court.

Favourite moments playing? Getting an opportunity to suit up for the Wildcats and subbing into the game for the first time against Melbourne.

3 things you’re good at other than basketball: Maths, eating large amounts of food and procrastinating.

8 of your favourite things you couldn’t live without: Family and friends, basketball, iphone, Nando’s, books, my car, Snapchat and sunscreen.

If you could hang out with any 5 people in the world who would they be: Michael Jordan, Will Ferrell, Shaq, Corey Taylor and Justin Bieber.

Favourite quote: “I’ve missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I’ve lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I’ve been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.” - Michael Jordan
