Meet Hawks Volunteer of the Week - Clare Chappell

Volunteer of the Week - Clare Chappell

Each week we're showcasing one of our dedicated and talented volunteers. Their contributions to the club are valued and we want to share the great work they’re doing. This week we’re paying thanks to the photography talents of Clare Chappell, who has been shooting the last three seasons of Hawks SBL games.

What made you want to volunteer your time to help the club? I love photographing people especially when they are being athletic.  I used to photograph the West Australian Ballet, this is similar although the movement is much faster and there's a lot more light.

Along with photography, anything else you do around the traps? I was involved in the production of the PLH Family Guide together with Travis Hayto and Michael Chappell, my husband. The guide went out to all the Junior Club Members.  I think it provides a great overview of basketball in WA; it covers pathways, rules, referee calls and other interesting facts.

Both my children have played in Hawks teams so I've helped out in the Manager role. I helped out on the Hawks Family Day and we also sponsor the SBL program.

Favourite aspects of volunteering? What can I say? I love basketball.  In my opinion it is the greatest sport on earth.  It's a ridiculously challenging game both physically and mentally.  I see being involved with the Hawks as a privilege; getting to know the players, staff and Hawks community so much better. I think it's important that you set a good example for your children. Community organisations require volunteers to get on board and help out.

Best thing about being a member of Team Hawks? It would have to be meeting people like Jenny Purser, Karl Hombergen, Mike Bussell and Travis Hayto.   Contributing towards a common goal is very rewarding and I value the friendships I've made.

Comment Guidelines: The SportsTG Network is made up of players, families and passionate sports followers like you who have a strong opinion about sport. That's great - we want you to have your say and share your thoughts with the world. However, we have a few rules that you must follow to keep it fun for all. Please don't be rude, abusive, swear or vilify others. Apart from some pretty serious sport sanctions, we also can ban you and report you if things get out of hand. So play fair and have fun, and thanks for your contribution.
