Why basketball? Followed my older sister Carli from high jump and athletics into basketball

How many years have you been playing? 12

Thoughts on the season so far: I've been at Hawks ever since I started in 2001, things have changed quite a bit over the years but I've always loved it at perry lakes.  It's a younger group this year, and a new coach with a new outlook, so it's a good challenge for all of us and we may not have had a W yet but I feel like we'll improve each week and the success will come!

Favourite players/inspirational people: I've played with some amazing players, especially in the earlier days, like Mel Sinfield (McClure), Kim Malacjuk (Morcom), and Deanna smith, just to name a few, but all my teammates always inspire me!

Favourite moments playing: I’ve been a part of 5 championships and every one has been a favourite moment!

Share 3 things you're good at other than basketball: in the offseason I row surfboats with the City of Perth Surf Club. I’m probably not good at it but I also love cooking (and eating, I'm good at eating!)

If you could hang out with any 5 people in the world, who would they be? My 5 closest friends, I think they'd be way more fun than any celebrity

Hawks Mens Team Player Profile

Age: 33

Nickname: AJ

School/Uni/Work: Morley Senior High School/Curtin University/Calibre Rail

Why basketball? Like most kids in WA in the late 80's, I was a huge Perth Wildcats fan and when my family moved to Perth I had the chance to join a basketball team. I loved playing and picked the game up pretty quickly. My dad built a basketball ring in my backyard so I had the chance to practice shooting as much as I wanted. Once I saw the improvements I made through practicing, I never wanted to stop. Almost 25 years later I still feel the same way!

How many years have you been playing? 24 years

How has the transition to Team Hawks been? The club is great. The Hawks are obviously a landmark club in the state so it’s great to be a part of it now. From a team perspective, it couldn't have been smoother. Shawn has coached me in the past so I knew what to expect in that regard and the guys are all pretty laidback so I felt like I fit in pretty quickly. We’ve had a good start to the season so far (being 4-0) and we have some tough games in the coming weeks, so we now have a great opportunity to get on the practice floor focused and continue to build on our early success.

Favourite players/inspirational people: When I was a kid I, like everyone back then I loved Michael Jordan, but I was also a big fan of Chris Mullin and Toni Kukoc. Both guys are left handed like me so it was always fun to watch and try to copy some of the things they did.

Favourite moments playing: 2006 NZNBL Championship with Hawkes Bay Hawks

Share 3 things you're good at other than basketball: Table tennis, crosswords and dominoes

Favourite things you couldn't live without: My wife, family, and my health. .that’s it.

If you could hang out with any 5 people in the world, who would they be? Phil Jackson, Chris Angel, Will Ferrell, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Steve Nash - I think there is pretty good mix in that group to make for an interesting night.

Favourite quote: The happiest people don't have the best of everything, they just make the most of everything.

Anything else you'd like to add? Go Hawks!
