SBL teams in first hit out for the Season

The Lady Hawks and Men's SBL teams had their first hit out for 2013 over the weekend when they took part in the SBL Pre-Season Blitz held at the WA Basketball Centre.

With both teams playing 4 games over the weekend, coaches were able to put into practice their new game styles and plays.

Our Lady Hawks faced Rockingham; WA Country; Wanneroo and Mandurah. They had a 2-2 result with their game against Mandurah reaulting in a 1 point loss. They were without Waves Rookie of the Year - Natalie Burton and the coaching staff rotated the younger 'rookie' hawks throughout the weekend, including Georgia Clarke, Meg Stewart and Jess Clayton.

Bec Boyanich( ex Suns) has joined her sister Chelsea at the Hawks and together with Waves player Gabbi Clayton and returning girls - Belinda Mayger, Rosie Tobin, Clare Thomson-Boston, Kate Anthony, Sarah Donovan,Rikki Thorne, Lucy Stewart, Cath Bell, Annika Renkema, Kate Duff, Brie Nolan and Teisha Standen, the season looks bright for the Lady Hawks.  

The men had games against East Perth, Cockburn, Willetton and Rockingham - going through without a loss. For anyone looking on, the starting 5 on Friday was a 'new look' with ex Redback player Adrian (AJ) Majstrovich; Imports Michael Lay & Corey Easley and ex Willo player Rob Cassir joining Ben Purser at tip off. The weekend also saw the Hawks debut of Tevin Jackson (ex Willo) along with young Hawks Alby Hunter; Nick Ryan; Jackson Simkovic and Haydn Smith. We welcomed back Ben Dixon;Travis Hayto; Ryan O'Sullivan, Tom Forde and Julian Mancini from the 2012 squad. 

Both coaches will be looking forward to the season proper and being able to work with their teams in the next two weeks leading to March 15th tip off against Eastern Suns.
