Day 4 at the Championships
This morning our Under 14 boys played the Illawarra Hawks in a battle for top place in our pool. The winner would face the Canberra Gunners in the quarter finals, with the losers matching up against the very strong Hill Hornets. Illawarra came out firing with 2 quick 3 pointers to get their scoring going. Our boys struggled with the more physical defensive pressure and had to work hard to find a way to the basket. Early turnovers cost our boys dearly with Illawarra building a handy early lead. Coach Bob called a time out and the boys came back out re-focussed and gradually chipped away at the lead.
Foul trouble for Jhonny Lutula forced him to the bench early in the second quarter, but the team kept fighting and only a rebounding lapse in the final seconds of the term saw the lead push out to 8 points.
The 3rd quarter started with the Perry Lakes boys again chipping away at the lead. Lutula's 5th foul gave him an unexpected early exit from the game, making the task that much harder for the Perry Lakes boys. To their credit they never gave up and played hard right to the end, eventually losing 44-63.
Gerry Ansey top scored for Perry Lakes with 17 points.
Our boys faced the very well drilled Hills Hornets team tonight - strong and accurate.
With injuries and soreness taking their toll , the boys went down to the Hornets.
Friday night sees them face Lakeside in a rematch of the 2012 WABL grand final. The game starts at 7.30pm so come along and cheer the team on as it's time for payback for the buzzer beater frpm two weeks ago!
