14 Boys continue on their winning way

Day 3 saw our 14 boys take on Gold Coast Waves in the first of the crossover matches.

Tonight's match quickly developed into a battle of the bigs with young Callum Dalton from Gold Coast dominating the defensive keyway in early play, while Gerry Ansey and Jhonny Lutula worked hard to find ways to the basket.

Hawks defense was outstanding in the first quarter and enabled them to build an 11-0 lead.
Gold Coast were always going to claw their way back into the game and they got within 2 points in the 2nd period with Dalton starting to score freely. A buzzer beating triple from Ben Metcalfe gave the Hawks a seemingly comfortable half time lead.

The 3rd and 4th periods saw the Hawks pull away only to see Gold Coast come back time and again. Ansey's effort to limit Dalton's influence was outstanding and led to Gold Coast turnovers and fast break opportunities for the Hawks.

Lutula was impressive, mixing penetrating drives with quality outside shooting, finishing the game with 27 points. Ansey finished with 16.

Thursday sees the team play 2 more games - 10.30 am and 7.30 pm - if you have the basketball passion, come and support the team.
