‘Hawk Chicks’ spread their wings and learn to fly

The Under 12 Development Squad girls (Hawk Chicks) competed in the Junior Development Carnival on Sunday at the WABC. The squad was divided into two teams, and both teams had a most successful morning.

After three games for each team, the Chicks won 5 and drew 1 game. In the drawn game, the girls came from behind and were so close to snatching a win, with a couple of shots that rattled around and almost fell in, keeping the spectators on the edge of their seats.

The squad have been working on their passing, dribbling and pivoting skills over the past few weeks, and it was encouraging to see the girls put their training into action. They also learnt how to space the floor, making it much easier to get the ball up the court.

The most encouraging thing to come out of the Carnival was the way that the girls listened to their coaches, then went out and really tried to put the instructions into practice. The improvement in the girls from the first carnival to the second was quite amazing.

The Chicks are now working towards the third Carnival early in August with great enthusiasm.
