The Perry Lakes Hawks Men’s SBL team have announced their leadership group for the upcoming 2012 season.

A leadership forum was held with the playing group last Wednesday night at the WABC, as a part of the culture change that new coach Trevor Pugh is trying to instil.

“The reasoning behind the leadership forum was to have the playing group take responsibility for who they want to lead them and to lead that group by a set of agreed team values,” Coach Pugh said.

“I’ve done this in the past with state teams and it has been a great success.”

The leadership group for the SBL team will consist of Jesse Dixon and import Matt Rosinski with Perth Wildcats development player Ben Purser taking the helm as captain.

“It’s a big honour to lead the Perry Lakes Hawks, it’s a really proud club and I can’t wait to lead the lads this year,” Purser said.

“I try to lead by example and I pride myself on my work ethic,”

“I won’t just be telling people to do stuff, I’ll be doing it myself so I hope that they follow my example.”

Ben Purser will be one of the youngest captains in the league, but having the likes of Dixon and Rosinski as his deputies, means that there is plenty of experience in the leadership group.

Jesse Dixon will be one of the vice-captains, having spent the last two years in the role, and is immensely proud about being reappointed.

“It’s a huge honour to be part of the leadership group again,” he said.

“I’ve been playing for the Hawks since I was twelve, and it’s not something that I take lightly.”

Matt Rosinski is also part of the leadership group having made an impression on his teammates from the first day of preseason due to his vocal on-court behaviour and his tenacity at training.

“I was hoping that I could be part of the leadership group, we have some guys on the team that lead pretty vocally, so if I can set the right example I think that we should be successful this year.”
