Tobin a Rising Star

Perry Lakes LadyHawks forward Rosie Tobin may have grown up on the other side of the world, but her game can be translated worldwide.

The Irish superstar, Tobin, transformed herself from a cult figure and division 1 player in 2010 to the Most Improved Player in the WSBL in season 2011.

She has credited the appointment of Rick Morcom before the start of last season as the catalyst for her breakout season.

“With the new coaching coming along, I tried to impress him and he gave me a few chances and it worked out,” she said

“I got more confidence that came with more playing time and it just snowballed from there.”

After two years playing under the offense-minded Glenn Ellis, Tobin welcomed the priority that Morcom placed on defense.

“When I started playing last year, Rick told me to concentrate on my rebounding and not worry about anything else and the offensive opportunity’s came out of that.”

Tobin, originally from Cahir, Ireland, first came to Australia in 2006 whilst travelling and then settled in Perth in late 2008

She joined the LadyHawks for the 2009 season and has subsequently become of fixture of the club.

This coming season Tobin hopes to be more aggressive on the offensive end keep working towards the ultimate goal of delivering the Hawks another WSBL championship.
