Hawks Sign Young Gun

The Perry Lakes Hawks Men’s SBL team have secured one of the recruiting coups of the year by announcing the signing of 18-year-old point guard Cory Richardson.

Richardson, who played SBL for the South West Slammers last year, is of a high pedigree having represented Australia at the U/17 World Championships in Germany.

His involvement in the State Men’s U20’s team with Hawks Head Coach Trevor Pugh was one of the reasons for his decision to sign with Perry Lakes after moving to Perth for work.

“I chose the Hawks because Coach Pugh described it as a great place to play and for me to advance my career.”

Since arriving at Hawks he has integrated himself seamlessly into the squad despite not being able to join in preseason training due to a foot injury.

“The club has been great so far, all the boys have been really welcoming and friendly.”

His injury will be healed by the time official preseason starts on January 16 and will formally join his new teammates for the first time in the lead-up to the 2012 SBL season.

“I just want to have a good season with my new club and hopefully get back to the championship game.”

Richardson will join other returning point guards Daniel Harloe, who spent a year studying abroad, and Luke Riches, who was injured late last season, to help replace the hole left by the retirement of Joe-Alan Tupaea.

There will be more announcements coming soon so check the Perry Lakes Hawks website and Facebook page for updates.
