Far West Football looks to be in for an exciting year , three clubs have new senior coaches, William Newchurch (Koonibba), Adam Braendler ( Thevenard) and Todd Warmington (Western United) with Scott Price lining up for his second year with “The Blues”.
From all reports we will see the return of some quality players to all clubs which augers well for the competition, obviously there will also be interclub transfers and players leaving to try their luck in neighbouring leagues, this in itself creates some excitement for season 2016.
Once again it is important from the FWFL point of view that our loyal supporters continue to front up week in and week out to support the locals to ensure the ongoing viability of all our teams.
One of the major sources of income for the clubs is the weekly gate takings from their six home games, marry that up with membership, after match functions, raffles and fundraisers it becomes evident just how big a role the supporter groups play.
It is very easy to believe that the game revolves around the players and to a large degree it does, however without the volunteers and those families that pay their way each week it would not take long to see the drastic effect it would have on the existence of the FWFL in its present format.
People off the ground play a major role in giving us the opportunity to run Far West Football, make no bones about it – the Football Family whether you are a player, volunteer or supporter , you play a vital in what country football stands for.
I acknowledge your support in the past and look forward to seeing you all at the footy on Saturday, never under estimate what your support means to a club and the Far West Football League overall.
Enjoy the opening of the season, and may all clubs enjoy the success of their labour.
Ron Redford – President FWFL
