On behalf of the Mid West community, our deepest sympathy and condolences are expressed to the family and friends of the late Jim Sampson, who passed away recently after a battle with illness.
Jim was well known and respected across the League and Eyre Peninsula. Life Membership of the Mid West Football League was presented in 2009, recognising many years as a league delegate. Particularly notable is his work at the merger of Le Hunte and Streaky Bay Football Leagues and overseeing the smooth transition to Mid West in the period 1986 to 1988. Prior to the League formation in 1988, he was a strong supporter and administrator behind the successful merger of Kyancutta and Warramboo to form Central Eyre FC in 1987. Jim is also a Life Member of the Central Eyre Football Club.
A lifetime involvement in football, originally with Warramboo FC as a valued member of the club throughout the 1960s and 1970s, an honest and hardworking player with a love of the social aspects of the game, tough on the ground but mates with everyone off of it! This has continued post playing days with ongoing roles is most areas, from team manager, time keeper, committee member, devoted working bees days and nights, and dedicated volunteer.A strong voice of reason and great company at anytime.
Outside of football, he was an outstanding tennis and table tennis player, loved farming life and time spent with family and friends at Venus Bay.
Despite mobility issues in later years, he was rarely missed at the footy and remained a strong supporter and advocate for our league.
Jim is survived by his wife Marion, son Darren and his wife Charmaine, Michael (Mick/Black Stick), daughter Tanya Patching and husband Ian. Grandfather for Tynan, Zali, Jessica and Tilly. Our thoughts and best wishes go out to the whole family, along with his many friends and the Central Eyre club.
Rest in Peace Jim, thankyou for your lifetime contribution!
