Roostars reigned in the first semi final, over running a tentative Western Bulldogs before a good crowd at Piednippie.
The first quarter was quite an arm wrestle, both sides defensively of top, low scoring was the key, although both sides missing opportunities in front of goals, the trademark pin point passes of the Tigers were finding red and white gurenseys this time around. After leading at quarter time, the Tigers were not able to score with the breeze in the second quater seeing Elliston narrowly up at half time and the match very much alive.
That Elliston style X factor aluded to in the match preview came to the fore in the third quarter, Tom Rumbelow, Aaron Castley, Ben Hurrell and Steve Paul rising along with the whole Roosters team to kick a match winning seven goals to nil, five of these in a 10 minute blast that virtually sealed the match.
Facing a three quarter time 50 point deficit, the Tigers faced a now or never dilemma. Within a few minutes they had reduced the deficit by 14 points, and who knows, an epic comeback was on the cards. Seven minutes in saw Tigers winning a free kick from high contact, and the subsequent 50m was to be a shot of goal, Sadly in deciding to administer their own justice, the free kick was reversed and resulted in a goal the other end, killing any comeback and seaon 2014.
Scott Feltus good again, Kade Gill in the ruck, Trent Brace and Rhys Bawden also good.
Woe betide the next team who meets the upwardly mobile Roosters Preliminary Final day. Matt Williams and Adam Hurrell likely ins that day!
Wudinna United overcame a determined Central Eyre side, probably decided with ten minutes of madness in the second quarter, where the Bulldogs has two players sent off and with some play focussed on the man rather than the ball. Their two goal advantage changed to a three goal deficit. Apart from this period, that match was played very evenly between two well match sides. A wonderful display of reserves football really, tough and uncompromising, nothing asked or given.
Central Eyre started the day with an enormous win in the Colts, big warning bells that they are back in the permiership hunt, While they started favourites, the margin was way ahead of what most pundits were predicting. Kane Grocke outstanding with six goals and possession all day, Connor Dowden everywhere, Joe O Brien a key forward, seven majors, Mac Heath run and carry, Jackson Grocke great in defense, but an all round excellent performance. The Tigers had some good players also, Cooper Hebberman with three goals, Lachlan Mc Innis as alway and Josh Horgan worked hard all day.
