Thank you to Tim Ottens who has agreed to be the Eastern Eyre Kinlough Cup representative next Saturday at Cleve. Good Luck Tim.
We basically have two weeks off after this weekends games (except for Tim) but there may be the option of umpiring in Great Flinders the following weekend – July 10th. I spoke to the GFFL Umpires Co ordinator and he will be back in touch next week. There may also be the opportunity to umpire a match at Cleve on Sunday, July 11th between Eyre Peninsula under 17s and Norwood under 17s. If you would like to be involved in any of these matches let me know.
Good feedback from EEFL meeting last night. Clubs did suggest we might need more communication between our members so that we continue to remain on the same page. I did tell them that I thought we have never been in better contact with each other than we are now but said that if our umpiring deteriorated then we would look at 'Zoom Meetings' or something like that. All the clubs liked website weekly updates as a positive link between umpires and the Eastern Eyre football community.
One thing I am noticing over the last few weeks is a small problem with our positioning. When the ball is in dispute on a forward flank close to the boundary, it is the central umpire who should be in control. The forward umpire should be deep inside the 50 metre arc but still close enough to make a call on his side of the contest. What we have been doing is dragging the forward 50 umpire into this area and as a result dragging him too far away from goal. I may need to explain this in person for it to make more sense.

Umpires Director
Editor note:
On behalf of all in Eastern Eyre, we wish Peter the best as he enters hospital next week for his knee operation which will see him in the slower lane for a while. Good luck and have a speedy recovery Pete!
