Maurie Morgan was a very generous supporter and sponsor of North Central Football over many years and was particularly interested in the development of juniors. It is fitting his name is associated with the award that recognises the successful transition of one fine sportsman into senior football ranks.
To be eligible for the "Rookie of the Year" award each nominee must be under twenty years of age, must have played at least nine senior games in the current season and not have played more than nine senior games in any previous season or competition. The V.F.L. Under-18's competition is classed as a senior competition in regard to qualification for the "Rookie" award.
The first year of senior football can be a difficult time for young footballers as they strive to strike a balance between their all important school studies and the demands of football.
