On the Saturday the 2nd April the Edithvale Aspendale Netball Club & The Frankston Bombers Netball Club will be playing netball for more than one reason.
Both teams will vie for EJ Turner Cup. This trophy was struck by both clubs to honour E J Turners association with the clubs & his service to local sporting clubs. He was a great supporter of the Edithvale Aspendale Football Club from the early 1960’s through to his death in 1981 & today the club scoreboard bears his name. In his early years EJ Turner also successfully coached the Frankston Bombers to a Premiership in 1952 & the Grand Final in 1953.
Both clubs are also playing to remember a good friend who recently committed suicide.
Rosalind grew up in Aspendale, attended St Louis de Montforts Primary School and Kilbreda College Mentone. In her early years she loved netball & played at a high level for Richmond Ramblers at Royal Park. Ros was a vibrant, fun loving & successful person and she had many friends yet her struggle with depression finally became over whelming.
Please support this day by coming to watch a great netball display and help our efforts to raise awareness of depression and mental illness. Both theEagles & Bombers are adding a community aspect to this netball game by proudly supporting beyondblue : the national depression initiative.
The games are being held at the Chelsea & District Netball Courts, Sturdee Parade, Chelsea and the first of three games start at 12pm.
