Dear Mornington Peninsula Nepean Football
League,
The Australian
Drug Foundation would like to congratulate your organisation on the initiative
of “Banning BYO alcohol to sporting clubs
and games”. The primary aim of this initiative was to regulate alcohol
consumption, reduce alcohol-related harm and create more family – friendly
environments. We are very interested in the outcomes of this initiative.
Alcohol remains
one of the major causes of preventable death and illness in Australia and
measures like this go a long way to protect the community from these harms
whilst creating sporting clubs that are safer and more enjoyable.
With the season
coming to an end, the Australian Drug Foundation together with key stakeholders
will review this initiative with the aim of improving the policy to ensure it
can be rolled out and sustained in other settings. If this policy is successful
the Australian Drug Foundation would encourage other sporting leagues around Australia to
take part.
The Australian
Drug Foundation supports this initiative and we look forward to meeting
interested parties in the off season to review analyse and improve the way we
reduce harm from alcohol.
If you have any
enquiries please do not hesitate to contact me.
Kind Regards
Rod Glenn-Smith
