Good mental health is about being able to work and study to your full potential, cope with day-to-day life stresses, be involved in your community and live your life in a free and satisfying way. Feeling down, tense, angry or anxious are all normal emotions, but when these feelings are how you feel most of the time they may be part of a mental health problem.
In Australia, one in six young people aged 16 to 24 years old currently experiences anxiety and one in 16 young Australians currently experiences depression.
Peninsula Health provides youth counselling services through their community health sites in Frankston, Mornington, Hastings and Rosebud. Other counselling and support services available include headspace Frankston and Mornington Peninsula Youth Services.
Some people can feel embarrassed or ashamed about seeing a counsellor. Don’t be! The counsellor does not judge, but will help you to find a better way to deal with your situation and to make your own decisions.
