Congratulations and Well Done to both the Mooroopna and Shepparton Swans Football Clubs who are again playing for the Victoria Police Blue Ribbon Foundation Cup in their Round 3 clash at Mooroopna on Saturday 17th April. Both these clubs have been playing in this game to bring attention and awareness to the Blue Ribbon Foundation. On Saturday, Blue Ribbon Foundation medallions will be awarded to a player from each club as well as the two central football umpires in the main game - this is a total of 16 medals that Shepparton Police Sergeant Peter LAW has been able to obtain in short notice. Peter is the President of the Shepparton Branch of the Blue Ribbon Foundation and will be present at the after match function with former Shepparton Policeman Frank EYRE to present the medallions to the umpires and to a player from both the Mooroopna and Swans teams. The Blue Ribbon Foundation was formed after the tragic slaying of two young Constables, Damien EYRE and Steven TYNAN in South Yarra in October 1988. This shocking event has been known as the Walsh Street Police Murders. This organization with Frank EYRE and wife Carmel, the parents of Damien, has been set up to remember the lives of Police members who have been killed in the line of duty. Out of every tragedy, if we work hard enough, we can create something strong and wonderful to commemorate these fine Police members who have been cut down in the prime of life. The Shepparton Branch of the Blue Ribbon Foundation have committed themselves to forward on all monies donated to the Goulburn Valley Base Hospital to purchase expensive, vital, life saving equipment. Too many times we have had people taken to the major hospital in Shepparton only to be transferred to Melbourne or Bendigo because Shepparton did not have the specialist equipment.
The Shepparton Branch of the Victoria Police Blue Ribbon Foundation are deeply indebted to the community, businesses and to the Chairman and members of the Goulburn Valley Football League for their continued support of the Blue Ribbon Foundation. With the continued support of the wider community and the G.V.F.L., the Shepparton branch of the Blue Ribbon Foundation will continue to assist the Goulburn Valley Base Hospital in its endeavour to become one of the best regional hospitals in Victoria.
The 7 matches between Mooroopna and the Shepparton Swans are being dedicated to those Police members who lost their life in the line of duty. Following all matches, a Victoria Police Blue Ribbon Foundation medallion will be presented to a player from each team. These games are more to promote the awareness of the Blue Ribbon Foundation rather than a request for donations - but, if any person would like to be involved, donations can be made at any Police station. The Victoria Police Blue Ribbon Foundation has its own website at :- policeblueribbon.com.au
Remember publicity prior to last year's Grand Final? Remember; Chairman Ian McDONALD along with Frank EYRE and former Shepparton player Matthew HANLON were going to parachute down onto Deakin from out of a perfectly good aeroplane but had to be cancelled because of the severe wind. No matter, these three gents with Frank being a sprightly 73 years of age, all jumped a few weeks later down in Nagambie and have lived to tell the tale of the exilleration and adrenalin rush they had as well as the generous donations that have been forwarded to the hospital.
Please support the Victoria Police Blue Ribbon Foundation.
