No world shattering surprises last week other than perhaps United squandering a 6 goal lead midday through the 2nd quarter to go down by 5 points against the determined Bulldogs at Tatura. A brain fade or two, Nathan GEMMILL off with a bad knee & a lapse in concentration in the last 5 minutes cost the Demons the 4 points. Well Done to the Bullies - they are really starting to straighten things up with some terrific performances over the last few weeks. Cameron TREWIN kicked 5 and was named the 'Dogs best along with Paul KIRBY and Billy HICKS. The Eagles up at Mansfield defeated the Swans by 11 points after kicking 8 goals 3 behinds in the 2nd quarter to the Swans 2 goals 5 behinds. Robbo kicked 2 for the Swans, Simon HART and David MENSCH both kicked 3 for the Eagles and it has been reported that Nick GIESCHEN finished up with 40 kicks and 16 handballs. Not a bad afternoons work! Seymour tried hard but were outclassed by the very good Kyabram side over at Ky. The Bombers had winners all over the ground with Simon SEDDON excellent in supplying his forwards Paul NEWMAN and Kayne PETTIFER who both kicked 6 and slotting 3 himself. Shane SCHOTTNER battled valiantly all day as did Mitch ELLIS. Terrific to see the Mooroopna Coach Brad CAMPBELL back out on the paddock - he kicked 6 upon his return game against Shepparton who were competitive and tried all day but were overwhelmed in the last quarter at Deakin when the Cats kicked 13 goals 2 behinds to 1 goal 3 behinds. Jordan SOUTER was named the best for the Cats, Nick ALLAN named best for Shepp. Echuca had a huge win over Euroa up on the Murray with Kristian HEIGHT kicking 10 with Matthew POLLOCK and Joel PERRY both kicking 6. Brad CUNNINGHAM for the Maggies played a terrific game to kick 4 of Euroa's 12 goals and was named the best player for the Magpies. In the final game over at Benalla the visiting Tigers won by 29 points but did not have it all their way at all as the Saints were quite impressive at times. Rochester shared their 13 goals with Elliott BOWEN, Dylan CUTTRISS and Perry OLIVER kicking 3 each. Dom CAVALLARO and Sam BRENNAN were named the Tigers best whereas Nick ABLEY and Brook MARTYN were named the Saints best.
Round 11 - Split Round - 3 games this Saturday, 3 games next Saturday. Things are really interesting at the moment, especially for the 6th spot on the ladder. The Shepparton Swans, Mansfield and Seymour are all recorded with 5 wins and 5 losses with the Swans holding 6th spot by nearly 20% over Mansfield who are 6.18% better off than Seymour. But; remember; the Shepparton Swans could be awarded the 4 points from the season opener against Shepparton when over the 4 quarters the Swans did kick more than Shepp. but 3 weeks after the game the 4 points were stripped from the Swans after an investigation and a meeting by the G.V.F.L. Board decided that the Swans had one player too many on the field when a head-count was called for late in the 2nd quarter. The Swans have appealed this decision by the GVFL and at this stage it seems a final decision may be made by the V.C.F.L. Appeals Committee on July 30th. This week-end hosts probably the game of the season so far with top of the ladder Echuca travelling to Mooroopna who are second on the ladder. The Murray Bombers have 9 wins with one loss, the Cats have 8 wins with 2 losses. Your tipster states that at about 4:45pm on Saturday afternoon the Murray Bombers will have 10 wins with one loss while the Cats will have 8 wins and 3 losses - the belief being that Echuca will have more winners on the day than the Cats - if you can possibly get to this game then do so, it really is shaping up as a beautie with one on one's being a highlight. Kristian HEIGHT and Brad MURRAY - Jordon SOUTER and Russell LEE - Michael GREEN v Brendan PRENDERGAST? - Michael GAY v Josh EDGAR? Chris CASEY v Stuart TREVENA? Brad CAMPBELL v Andrew BRIGGS? Tommy SHELDON v Wayne PATACK? Chris SCHIRMER v James CAMPBELL? Seymour host the Shepparton Bears down at Kings Park and should win in what could be a close game. Shepparton United will be very determined to get back on the winners list when they take on the Benalla Saints at Deakin Reserve. United will be hoping to play young Matthew PIANTO who is on Port Melbourne's list in the V.F.A. who hails from out Congupna way. If he plays he could off-set the loss of Nathan GEMMILL who might miss a few weeks with a knee injury. United have announced the re-signing of Marc QUARRELL to continue as Senior coach for 2011 - it is believed Tim SYMES is keen to continue as Coach of Benalla. The Saints will be very determined to rack up their 2nd win for the year which could assist in the recovery of the terrible injury their President Geoff POLLARD suffered a week or two back. All involved with the Goulburn Valley Football League wish Geoff a full and speedy recovery.
