Macca was extremely disappointed and upset with incidents that occurred in the almost 40 minute second quarter of the senior game between the host club Shepparton and the Shepparton Swans in the season opening game at Deakin Reserve on Good Friday night 2nd April. The game was played under the brilliant lights in perfect conditions on a beautiful ground and before a record Home and Away crowd. VCFL Investigations Officer Paul SHORTIS was appointed to investigate allegations of swearing and bad behaviour by the Swans Senior Coach Perry MEKA who recommended Perry appear before the GVFL Independent Tribunal on a charge of Unbecoming Conduct in that his behaviour on this night could have brought our game into disrepute. Perry appeared before the Tribunal on Wednesday 28th April and after a hearing that lasted almost 5 hours the Tribunal announced that the charge was "not sustained." Obviously Perry was very pleased and has described his advocate, A.F.L. Player Advocate Iain FINLAY and an absoulte legend. This decision and the whole saga was probably the straw that broke the camel's back resulting in Macca having his written resignation in at the GVFL office first thing the next morning. Despite many, many calls and talks with Board members, Club Presidents and delegates, friends and officials from other Leagues, Macca has remained resoulte and could not be swayed to change his mind. Reluctantly and sadly, the GVFL had to accept Macca's resignation when the Board met on Monday 3rd of May. Macca was a real dynamo in his 4 year stint with the League with the last two as Chairman in that he along with former President John COGHLAN and our Champion Keith WELLMAN have saved the League from almost bankruptcy to now have it in a reasonably healthy financial position and looking forward to smacking the O & M! Well Done Macca - you really have done a wonderful job.
Despite this disappointment the GVFL must move on and move on we have! We are very pleased to announce that Matthew CHILCOTT has been appointed and has accepted a position on the GVFL Board to take up Macca's Board position. Matthew has been around and involved in GVFL footy over the last dozen or so years with Ky and Mooroopna, Shepp United and Seymour and more recently he has been calling the footy with 98.5FM and commenting on the League on Saturday mornings with Wes CUSWORTH on 95.3SR FM. This is a terrific appointment as Matthew will bring a lot of experience and knowledge to us in a hands on role and we can move into the future with confidence. In the not too distant future we hope to have Matthew's profile within our GVFL website and in a forth-coming edition of the GVFL WeekEnder
