Benalla recorded a terrific win over Euroa at the Memorial Oval last Saturday, leading all day to finally win 22.4 (136) to the Magpies 14.20 (104) - the winners had 26 scoring shots, the losers had 34 scoring shots - unreal game footy is'nt it? Is bad kicking bad footy? or just bad kicking? Benalla were 12 goals straight at half time to Euroa's 9.9. Ricky SYMES kicked another 5 and was well assisted by Brady GREEN who also dobbed 5. Ricky has now kicked 38 of Benalla's total of 109 goals - not a bad percentage - not a bad effort. Now that Benalla know what it feels like to win can they go back to back and while on their own ground knock over the Bulldogs? Remember, Tatura go into this game without Paul KIRBY and Ben COSGRIFF who are representing the VCFL v the Amateurs at the Junction Oval in St Kilda on Sunday. Rochester are now one game clear up the top of the ladder with their 21 point victory over Mansfield - the Tiger's kicked 10.7 (67) to the Eagles 6.10 (46). Sam WILLIAMS and Dylan CUTTRISS kicked 3 each with Kahl OLIVER and Heath AITKEN being named the Tiger's best. Ben MILLOTT, Bernie JONES and Craig FLINT were the Eagle's better players. Rochy's ruckman Jack GIVNEY was reported by central umpire Andrew YOUNG for dropping a Liverpool kiss upon Matt STEVENSON and then apparently giving the umpy a cook when informed his misdemeanor was witnessed by the man in white. Jack copped a total of 4 weeks suspension at the Tribunal on Tuesday night. Echuca defeated Shepparton 22.5 (137) to 17.11 (113) - Liam VOIGT kicked 4, Ayden WALTON and Matt POLLOCK both kicked 3. Brett VALLENDER kicked 4 for the Bears, Lloyd HARRIOTT got 3. Seamus HERRICK and Matt POLLOCK were named the Murray Bombers best, Matt PELL and Chris CULLINAN were named the Bears best. Shepparton United were only 3 points behind Tatura at 3/4 time but the Bulldogs ran out comfortable winners by 37 points - Tatura 15.14 (104) to 10.7 (67) - Leigh OWEN kicked 5 for the Bullies and was named in the best along with Brendan KEAST who is having a terrific season. United's best were Peter RALPH who played at full back on Paul KIRBY and kept big Kirb's to just one goal, Phil CARROLL and Tyson SIDEBOTTOM again were very good. Seymour really smacked Kyabram by 85 points - that is a big win! Seymour 19.9 (123) to Ky. 5.8 (38) - the Bombers missed Paul NEWMAN and a few other regular senior players but this is a significant win to the Lions. Paul COLBERT and Saad SAAD both snagged 6 for Saad to now lead the True Boot ladder with a seasons total of 58 - 3 up from Paul NEWMAN and 4 up from Damien YZE who also did not play for the Swans. Afro ATKINS was named the Bombers best player. The Mooroopna Cats gave the Shepparton Swans a nice old thumping on Sunday in the Victoria Police Blue Ribbon Foundation game. Robbie OSBORNE was on fire and kicked 9 and was obviously named in the Cats best along with Russell LEE and youngster Mitch KYLE. Brian DURBRIDGE always gives 100% and kicked 3 and was the Swans best player. Final score was Mooroopna 22.19 (151) to the Swans 8.13 (61).
5 games on Saturday - Shepparton United v Mooroopna at Deakin on Sunday. Kyabram host Euroa where patrons should see the Bombers record their 10th win for the season even though they go into the game without full forward Paul NEWMAN and full back Josh VICK who are representing the VCFL against the Amateurs at St Kilda on Sunday. The Bombers will be all out to make amends from last week's effort where they only kicked 5 goals. Can Benalla defeat Tatura at home? Toss of the coin comes up the Bulldogs but not by much. Another very good game should be at Princess Park where the Shepparton Swans take on the Shepparton Bears. Will Damien YZE be back for the Swans? Will Ed CLARKE and Marc HARRAP be back for the Bears? Howsabout we tip a draw? We have not had a draw in any grade of footy so far this year so Saturday could be the day between the across town rivals. The long time foes Echuca and Rochester clash up on the banks of the Murray River - Rochy won the Round 2 clash by 11 goals at Rochy. The Murray Bombers must win to keep their finals hopes alive. This too should be another great game as will the Under 18 game as Echuca are 2nd on the ladder, Rochy are one game behind in 3rd spot. Selection ? Rochy! Another beautie up at Mansfield where the Eagles host the Seymour Lions. The Lions have had two very good wins in the last fortnight over Rochy by a point and the Kyabram Bombers by a big score last week. Mansfield love their own ground and play it very well - will David MENSCH be back after missing the last 3? Paul COLBERT is in terrific form for the Lions - because of the home ground advantage Mansfield get the nod but not by much. To wind up Round 13, Shepparton United host Mooroopna at Deakin Reserve on Sunday. If United can have most of their good players playing well all day they could surprise the Cats in the clash for the Jim HOVEY Shield, however most tipsters would tip Mooroopna to be the victors. A terrific round of games. Please make an effort to get to the footy and support your club.
