After several weeks of speculation, the GOTAFE Goulburn Valley League and the SS&A Ovens & Murray Football Netball League, are pleased to confirm they will meet in an interleague clash on Saturday the 23rd of May 2020.
The games, to be hosted by the GOTAFE GVL at a venue to be decided, will include Senior and Under 18 football along with Open and 17 & Under netball, and the Senior football teams will once again play for the coveted Ash-Wilson Trophy, currently held by the SS&A OMFNL.
GOTAFE GVL Chairman David Roff is excited about next year’s clashes.
“We are delighted with the opportunity to renew the rivalry between our two great leagues, both in netball and football.”
“The last games played in both sports were terrific contests and we look forward to the 2020 action and an opportunity for supporters to see the best players from both competitions,” Roff stated.
SS&A OMFNL Chairman David Sinclair was delighted the GVL Board accepted the invitation to play interleague football after the AFL Victoria Community Championships were disbanded.
“This gives both Leagues the opportunity to continue a rivalry that’s been built over many years across Football and Netball.”
“The GVL and the O&M are arguably the best competitions outside Melbourne and players will look forward to challenging themselves against the best Footballers and Netballers in regional Australia.”
“With the Ash-Wilson Trophy and bragging rights up for grabs I’m sure both the Football and Netball will be keenly contested. We look forward to the challenge,” said Sinclair.
The venue for the interleague matches will be determined in the new year, with GOTAFE GVL clubs to be asked to submit expressions of interest to host the games.
