An Easter kick off, an increased number of night games and the continuation of the current final six arrangement headline the release of the 2018 GOTAFE Goulburn Valley League Fixture.
Re-elected GOTAFE GVL Chairman David Roff, is pleased with the structure of next season and the variety in the overall fixturing.
“Clubs have had an opportunity over the last couple of months to negotiate time and day changes to the original draft and this has led to fourteen deviations from the standard 2.00pm Saturday timeslot” he said.
“Many of our clubs like to create stand-alone games in the fixture, whether that be night games or Sunday games with these games typically leading to larger gates and greater income opportunities.”
“The negotiated changes to the fixture result in eight night matches including Good Friday, and five Sunday matches during the season.”
“Two Easter blockbusters will kick off the season with traditional rivals Shepparton United and Shepparton moving their Round 5 clash to face off on Good Friday before Echuca host Tatura on Easter Saturday at Victoria Park.”
“Seymour will host Shepparton for an ANZAC Day commemorative game on Sunday 29 April and in Round 16 Vietnam Veterans will be the focus at the Seymour v Rochester clash at Kings Park.”
“The annual Blue Ribbon game between Mooroopna and Shepparton Swans will be held at Mooroopna on the Queens Birthday weekend and the Round 11 Shepparton v Mooroopna game will be a Pride game with the Northern Country Women’s League match to be scheduled on the same day.”
“Following feedback from clubs the Victoria Country bye has also been reinstated to coincide with the big clash against Vic Metro on 7 July.”
"The final six will remain in its current form following an analysis of different options and the past history of results, whilst there was some support for a final five or a different final six structure the current system received the most support from clubs."
“The first week of finals is also likely to again include a night final following the huge success of the 2017 Qualifying Final at Mooroopna.”
“The Grand Final will once again be played at Deakin Reserve with the League’s finale scheduled for Sunday 23 September.”
“Next year is also the third and final year of the current ‘rolling draw’ structure which was voted in by clubs for the 2016-2018 seasons.”
