Qualifying Final - 6th September 2014 at Mansfield - Swans up by 8 points at 3/4 time 8.13 (61) to 8.5 (53) - Benalla kicking to the town end in the last quarter. Quarter x Quarter scores were :- Benalla 4.2 (26) to the Swans 4.4 (28) - at 1/2 time Benalla were up by 1 point 6.4 (40) to 5.9 (39). Final score Benalla 12.9 (81) to the Swans 9.15 (69). Josh MELLINGTON kicked 2 goals in the 1st quarter for Benalla and then the match-winning two goals late in the last quarter - his last goal was supurb - he took a low driving slips catch mark right on the boundary line where the 50 metre arc meets over on the Time Keepers / Scoreboard side of the ground - the wrong side for a left footer but it did not worry him in the least - he went back very carefully and kicked the footy beautifully - straight through the high diddle diddle and not a chance of being touched by the Swans defenders in the goal square. A fantastic game - a sensational high mark by 18 year old Brodie WEBSTER who hurt his leg when he landed - he has not played since & remember Morrison medalist Will MARTINELLO did not play this game either having copped his broken jaw a week ago. Yappa McKEAN was sent from the ground with a yellow card midway through this hectic last quarter so the Saints were down to 17 men for the last 15 minutes or so. The Swans were good; very good but the Saints were just that bit better. Benalla's Goals :- Josh MELLINGTON 4, Brodie WEBSTER 3, Nick WARNOCK 2, Luke MORGAN 1, Josh MARCHBANK 1 and Shayne McKEAN 1.
