The 2010 season was a great year for GDFL which culminated in a great finals series at St Albans reserve I would like to thank all the clubs for their continued support in making our league stronger both on and off the field our standard in footy and netball is getting exceptionally high.
As reported last year that football & netball brings many challenges to the fore but a year would not pass If something was not thrown up for the tribunal & executive to rule on but with commonsense & discussion nothing is insurmountable.
I would like to thank my fellow executive for their continued support your enthusiasm & commitment to your tasks are first class; I would like to congratulate Margaret Webb on receiving the VCFL Service Award, thanks also to Madge Anderton in her first year as our netball manager her introduction of a zero Policy in code of conduct took some players & clubs by surprise but we as an executive support her in these endeavours Well done to Madge & her group of umpires.
We played interleague footy and netball for the first time for five or six years and we were successful in all games except for senior netball But I am sure this could be rectified if all players made themselves available we had a very young side in our senior netball But they all gave their best. Congratulations to all premiers in both codes especially Bell Post Hill in winning their first ever senior premiership. Also Winchelsea winning their first senior netball premiership since joining our league.
Thanks to all our sponsors (partners) large and small your contribution to our league is very much appreciated. Thanks to our tribunal members for their contribution in what is sometimes a thankless job also thanks to our media team who are second to none in our region at least.
Some special awards were presented to people who have given service to their respective clubs and the league in general they were Life membership to Corio's Daryle Smith for reaching 300 game milestone. President’s award winners were Bill McAuliffe (Bell Post Hill) & Janette Watt (Bannockburn).
Also thanks to the GFUL for their support in what is a difficult job at times, thanks also to our own club umpires who give our Reserves a chance to have a game.
I would like to mention the support our league gives to the community which includes pink footy/netball day Heart kids & read the play programmes.
In finishing I would like to thank everybody who contributes to the running of your chosen club and to the league in general Your support is much appreciated as the volunteers are the backbone of the community.
Have a nice break a great / happy and safe Christmas hope to see you all in 2011.
