After what could be called the pre-season competition also known as Round 1, we are ready after Easter consumption to start the season again.
Bannockburn host Geelong West out at Victoria Park. The room redevelopment has gone right down to the wire but hopefully all will be ready for the Tigers 1st home game. They should bring home the points also after a comfortable win over Corio. Returning champ Peter Riccardi played well in his opener for his old club and along with Ben Naylon provided a powerful forward combo. Paul Messers lads showed some patches of promise but made some terrible skill errors in there loss to Winch.
Belmont Lions host East Geelong at the Winter Resort. The Lions put up a promising show against the Panthers last week but have a tough start with 2 probable finals sides early in the season. Matt Murphy was fantastic in his debut kicking 7 and will be one for Adam Skrobolak to watch. East though in a tight contest.
What is sometimnes called a battle of traditional rivals see ex Corio and well travelled Frank Fopianis Magpies take on the Devils at Osbourne Park. North were good against Inverleigh but it was the young Falcon players, particularly Hutchinson, who gave them a lot of drive. Chris Barnett also played a good game but this could be the first test of the post Jamie Weisse period at North given they will have Mark Stewart to cotend with. Corio by 4 goals.
The fale will be unfurled at Godfrey St tomorrow in the Grand Final rematch. Bell Post Hill were solid against Belmont last week and will want to draw a line in the sand early this season. Sammy Calder kicked 5 last week and plays Godfrey St well. Hard one to tip but I'll toss a coin and go with home side in the end.
Werribee Centrals take on Inverleigh with both sides looking to open their accounts and establish some credentials for the season. Inverleigh appeared to run out of legs against North whilst Werribee with a decent stock of new players are still a bit of an unknown. Inverleigh just.
And finally Winchelsea host Anakie at home in the last game of the round. Another close one with Winch definately showing improvement from last year, whilst Anakie met the premiers at home but not being quite competitive. Markaham and Sluggert continue to be important to the Roos and must stand up for Anali to win
