At Anakie Reserve, the Bannockburn Tigers proved they’ve found their long sought-after consistency, taking home the four points in a commanding 13-goal win over the Anakie Roos.
Both sides entered the contest looking to sure up a place in the top five, and the win bumped the Tigers up to third spot on the ladder, while Anakie was knocked out of the top five and now must fight their way back from seventh on the ladder.
The Tigers had little idea going into the contest that they would put in such a great performance, but now must be considered as genuine contenders for the flag.
Tigers co-coach Ron Pilgrim said it was “probably the best result” Bannockburn has had all year, and was in sharp contrast to their 51-point loss to the Roos at the Tigers’ home ground in Round 5.
A good opening quarter and a 20-point quarter-time lead set things going in the Bannockburn direction, and the Roos were reduced to trying to play catch-up for the rest of the afternoon.
Bannockburn kept Anakie goalless in the second term, and kicked eight goals of their own in the third term to quell any chance of an Anakie comeback.
The Tigers’ backline was sensational all day, with Jamie Van Ingen again putting in a great performance, while Ross Dando was good in his shut-down role on Anakie forward Jamie Pitman.
Matt Tyquin produced another bag of goals, this time kicking six for the visitors.
There were contributors all over the ground for the Tigers, and with no injuries from the game, it’s a good win by every definition
