Round 5 saw 2 big games on the agenda, Anakie played North Geelong at home and with both as big improvers this year a win for both would set the expectations for the clubs. And it was Anakie who with a full list pf players led by Lazzarich, Wilson, Collins and Richert blew North out of the water with a 85 point demolition.
The other big game saw Thomson also undefeated take on last years Grand Finalists in East Geelong. Even with a long injury list the Eagles were certainly up to the contest, against the Tigers who have recruited so well over the summer, And it was those big signings who had a big impact on the game with Luke Forbes kicking 6 goals at times in the game when they were most needed. It was a great contest of football though and even when Thomson burst out the gates, it was East Geelong who always seemed to get back into the contest so much so it was only a 10 point difference at the main break. In the 3rd East had the wind and needed to take a lead into the last quarter but Thomson were up to the challenge with Wight, Menzies and Brett Macleod pick ing up lots of possessions to maintain there half time lead. It was enough to see the tired Eagles become a little undisciplined and the Tigers kick away to a 5 goal lead. There is no dpubt however these 2 sides should meet in finals action. Elsewhere Bell Post Hill were too good for Inverleigh, Corio got their first win on the board over Belmont, Werribee Centrals 70 point winners over West and Bannockburn returned to the winners list over Winchelsea
