The GDFL has been accepted into the revamped Country Championships and will make its long-awaited interleague return against the Heathcote and District Football League on May 22.
Skrobalak has no doubt the GDFL deserves to be recognised as a major state league after making dramatic gains over recent seasons.
Skrobalak, who is making his representative coaching debut, hopes the league's best players embrace the concept and put their body on the line for the GDFL.
"Definitely, the league has improved and there's absolutely no reason why we can't field a strong side that can win," Skrobalak said.
"It's really important we win and push up for the year after, there's no reason why we can't do that."
Skrobalak stressed the importance of a successful interleague return, saying it was crucial in promoting the league's image to help entice potential recruits.
"It's exciting to have it back, the support from the players and clubs have been fantastic and if we do well, it generates a good profile for the league," he said. Skrobalak heads a three-man coaching and selection team which includes North Geelong coach Frank Fopiani, who will serve as assistant coach, and Winchelsea leader Michael Smith, who will act as runner.
Clubs have been asked to supply a list of players they believe deserve an interleague jumper, while Skrobalak and his team will develop their own shortlist.
The selection team will then formulate an initial training squad of 40.
"Once the season starts, we'll have access to the tapes, we'll watch games and start cutting that squad and work out the team we want," he said.
"We won't be picking players on reputation. They've got to prove themselves and we'll be looking at the young kids coming through, because if they're good enough they deserve a spot too."
