FROM GARY DAVENPORT, SFL ASSOCIATION COMMITTEE CHAIRPERSON
SUBJECT - COCA COLA METROPOLITAN CHALLENGE CUP V (2009)
Welcome to the 2009 football season. The S.F.L. are pleased to announce that Interleague Football will again be on the long weekend of Saturday, 6th of June, 2009, against the South Australian Amateur League.
The game is known as the Coca Cola Metropolitan Challenge Cup V with the format involving Under 15's, Under 18's and Seniors, to be played at the Hickinbotham Oval.
S.F.L. Clubs have always requested Association Football, so we now expect the unconditional help and support from all Clubs to ensure the day is an outstanding success for your League.
We are delighted to announce that we have, again, secured Mr. Rod Jameson as S.F.L. Association Senior Coach. Rod is a former Glenelg and Adelaide Crows premiership player, with 153 AFL League games experience behind him. Rod is a Board Member of the Glenelg Football Club and is keen to help in the development of footballers in our League.
Rod will be ably assisted with the appointments of Norm Bergman, Darren Twigden and Gary Reavill as assistant coaches.
Simon Angove, a former Glenelg Football Club League Player has been reappointed as our Senior Runner, supporting Rod and his coaching team.
The SFL is also pleased to announce the appointments of our junior coaches. David Murdock is the Under 18's Coach with assistant coaches Graham Cummings and Boyd Austin. The Under 15's Coach is Craig Burfit with assistant coach Adam McKay. All members of the two coaching panels bring with them a wealth of experience.
Qualifications for Under 18's will require that players be born in 1991, 1992 or 1993. Qualifications for Under 15's will require that players be born in 1994 or 1995.
Each club will be contacted and then be required to nominate players who they believe have the ability to successfully make the transition to Association Football. The player needs to be aware of their impending nomination, before the club's submission to the League, to ensure their availability and to ascertain their committment is at the appropriate level.
Further information regarding selection criteria and training information will be distributed as we move closer to the day.
I reiterate that we expect your total support and co-operation to ensure the success of this exciting event.
Yours in Football
Gary DAVENPORT (SFL Association Chairperson)
