State Award Recipient

At the FNSW State Dinner, Leigh was presented her State Award, in recognition of the years of service she has given to NWSWF and women’s football in general.

A bit about Leigh

  • Commenced training at West Pymble FC at age 10 with the boys under her dad’s coaching as wasn’t allowed to play with the boys.
  • Progressed to playing in the first women’s team at West Pymble (open) at age 12.
  • Played representative football for Kuring-Gai association GHWFA from age 13 to late twenties.
  • Played for NSW and Australia in the first national team in 1978.
  • Played in the first Australian Women’s International test on Oct 6, 1979.
  • Continued to play for Australia for at least the next 13 years.
  • 1994 Leigh commenced coaching at FNSW.
  • Coached the NSW U19 female squad for 3 years, they were National Champions all 3 years.
  • 1997 Held a scholarship coach position with the Senior National Team under Tom Sermani.
  • Held FNSW’s Junior Elite Training Squad (JETS) Head Coach position, then NWSIS Assistant Coach position.
  • 2000-2002 was assistant coach and then coach to Marconi’s 1st grade/reserve grade women’s team – minor premiers and premiers both grades and won Waratah Cup.
  • Coached in the WEFA (Winning Edge Football Academy) with Geoff Stanmore and David Lee – the first of its kind which was a fully-funded academy for highly talented footballers from all over NSW
  • 2005 – coached with  Geoff Stanmore and David Lee in the IQ Football Academy for about 4 years
  • 2005/6 – Commenced coaching Koalas, won 3 out of 5 Club championships, between 2006-2010
  • 2010 – Appointed as NWS Koalas Coaching/Technical Director.
  • 2013 – Remains Coaching/Technical Director of NWS Koalas and this year was appointed to participate on the NSW Women’s Standing Committee.
