Week One Redbacks Finals Wrap

In the first weekend of WABL finals the Redbacks came out with one win and five losses.  However, this does not reflect the closeness of some of the finals as indicated by the fact that three of our teams lost by less than five points.

The Under 14 Boys had a great win against the East Perth Eagles 63 to 58 points at Wanneroo.  This win sees them move into the quarter-finals, where they will meet the Willetton Tigers.  The game is to be played this Sunday (6 September) on court 1 at the Perry Lakes Stadium, with tip-off being at 9AM.

The Under 15 Girls lost in their elimination final game against the Eastern Suns 67 to 46 at Wanneroo.  The Under 16 girl’s team also lost to the Eastern Suns 63 to 67 in their close elimination final game played on an adjoining court at Wanneroo that could have gone either way.

The Under 18 Division 2 men lost in a nail-biter 56 to 59 points.  The Under 23s similarly lost by three points to the Eastern Suns 70 to 73 after a successful last second three-pointer by the Suns.  Both of these were elimination finals played at Perry Lakes.

The Division One Women’s team got off to a bad start in defending their 2008 title by losing to the Wanneroo Wolves in their qualifying final played at Perry Lakes Stadium 52 to 75.  However, they still move into the second quarter final round by virtue of their high placing on the ladder and will meet the Mandurah Magic in a sudden death final on court 1 at Perry Lakes at 2.15PM this Sunday.

The Redbacks congratulates all teams for making the finals in this highly competitive and tough junior basketball league.  It wishes the Under 14 Boys and Division One Women’s team all the best in their finals this Sunday at Perry Lakes and encourages all Redbacks’ fans to come down and support those teams in their quest to make the semi-finals the following week.  As per above the Under 14s Boys are playing at 9AM and Division One Women at 2.15PM.
