LANCASTER v GIRGARRE
This is another of those eight point games and for the winner they will be firmly entrenched inside the top six.
Lancaster has been travelling well over the past fortnight with some solid victories, especially last week against another top six contender in Rushworth.
Girgarre has been outstanding this season to date and it will look to the likes of Matt Bartlett, Shannon Tucker, Nick Mellington and Ashley Kirchhofer to continue their good form.
Michael Hill was a star up forward last weekend with seven goals and Steven Thomson, Besim Besim, Joshua Berry, Damon Burns and Liam Nedeljkovich were outstanding for the Wombats in their win over Rushworth.
The Wombats traditionally win these games and I expect them to win a tight one, despite not having the services of Justin Chambers.
Tip: Lancaster.
MERRIGUM v TALLYGAROOPNA
After successive losses, Tallygaroopna bounced back to the winners’ list and in doing so consolidate its place in the top six.
The Redlegs’ have historically been very good at home and not so good away, so coach Chris Earles will be looking to his players to keep the momentum going against Merrigum.
Timothy Belford, Hayden Powles, Maxwell Thompson, Zachary Brett, Wade Bonham, Timothy Karolidis and the returning Kane Handley will all need to play well for them to get the four points.
Merrigum will look to the likes of Joe Sullivan, Geoff Connally, David Matthews, Robert Knowles, Jack Wallace and Kain Smiljanic to try and get its season back on track.
The Bulldogs will take some solace from the fact that Tallygaroopna doesn’t have the best record away from home against the top echelon of teams.
Despite that I think the Redlegs’ can get the job done today.
Tip: Tallygaroopna.
MURCHISON-TOOLAMBA v RUSHWORTH
Murchison-Toolamba will be chasing a third consecutive win when it takes on the out of form Rushworth.
The Tigers will be hoping to regain a couple of the players who missed the loss to Lancaster.
Among them hoping to return is the coach Jason Hucker.
The Grasshoppers have done what they have had to do in the past fortnight against the lowly Undera and Longwood.
Brayden Cecchin, Joshua Lawrence, Nathan Carroll, Jack O'Toole, Tom Kerrins and Clinton Lambert have been some of the real shining lights while Ashton Cashion and Luke Armstrong have been among the goals.
The Tigers will look to the likes of Andrew Gelsi, Todd Clarke, Shayne Lynch, Jeremy Lambden, Jacob Perry and Alexander Kealy to continue their good form to get enough of the pill to spearhead Rob Osborne.
Osborne will be keen to recapture some of his early season where he booted some big bags of goals. The goals have certainly dried up for him in the past month.
Tip: Murchison-Toolamba.
NAGAMBIE v UNDERA
Nagambie put an indifferent week off the field behind them to register a comfortable win against Longwood despite missing six players due to suspension.
The group of players will be rushed back into the team to lend support to the likes of Zachary Winter-Irving, Mark Nolan, Daniel Haysom, Daine Lowry, Ben Hutton and Mathew Waterson who all stood up last weekend.
After a couple of early victories, Undera has really struggled and it will need a big effort from its more consistent performers in Aaron Cordy, Nathan Frizzell, Nicholas McAuliffe, Matt Wishart, Danni Heazlewood and John Valentin to be competitive for long periods of today’s game.
Tip: Nagambie.
AVENEL v LONGWOOD
Avenel will look to kick start its stop/start to the season, with yet another bye last weekend.
The Swans had a fantastic win before last weekend’s bye and the likes of Braydon Kearns, Russell Sheriff, Samuel Scott and Anthony Tautala will need to be on their game for Longwood to be any chance of upsetting its neighbour.
Donald Stirling, Scott Tyers, Michael Morgan and Chris Burton were all outstanding in the win against Tallygaroopna and the season-ending injury to Kasey Duncan is likely to present an opportunity for another player.
Tip: Avenel.
