VIOLET TOWN v TALLYGAROOPNA
There is no disputing that Tallygaroopna has improved this season.
But to be taken seriously they must claim a big scalp.
They have lost to all of the teams above them on the ladder despite not being disgraced and now they face another challenge on the road today.
Violet Town has slipped into fourth place on the ladder after accounting for Undera thanks largely to another big haul of goals from Robert Staff.
Tim Ross, Shaun Silver, Alex Duff, Greg Dyer and Christopher Bamford were others to shine in the win while Chris McKay continued his good form with another handful of goals.
Tallygaroopna started really well in the past two of its matches, but unfortunately it hasn’t been able to go on with the job.
Coach Chris Earles knows the task will be in front of his players and they must play four quarters to be any chance of combating Violet Town at home.
Timothy Karolidis continues to lead by example in the ruck while Douglas Wren, Austin Tricarico, Timothy Belford, Brent Arho and Sean Arnold will need to keep up their good form for the visitors to come away with the win.
Tip: Violet Town.
GIRGARRE v LANCASTER
After not winning a game in the opening month of the season, Lancaster suddenly find itself inside the top six off the back of five consecutive wins.
The Nick Bertoli-led Wombats have claimed a scalp or two among those wins and now face another big challenge against the improved Girgarre.
The Roos are on the brink of the top six after accounting for Longwood and Ardmona, with another win today to possibly put them in the six.
Ashley Hughes, Ashley Kirchhofer, Zane Johnstone, Ryan Jones, Daniel Ford and Thomas Walsh were the shining lights in the big win and they will need to all fire for the Roos to go with the visitors for four quarters.
Bertoli says the turnaround for his team has been simple – a fit group of players has allowed them to put together a purple patch of consistency.
Andrew Pettigrove, Michael Hill, Besim Besim, Chris Eddy, Jack Donnell and Bertoli have been some of the players to have led the remarkable fightback by the Wombats.
The Wombats have also been a tough team to match-up on over the past six weeks, with so many different avenues to kick a winning score.
Tip: Lancaster.
STANHOPE v MURCHISON
Stanhope kept the pressure up on the top two after brushing aside a fellow finals rival last weekend.
The Lions were outstanding in the second half and it was the likes of Blake Coyle, Eric Edwards with five goals, Jack Young, Thomas Durward, Lukas Hanslow and coach Brenton Gray that set the tone.
Lions leader Michael Coad’s battle with Murchison coach Brent Chapman should be a ripper while the Grasshoppers defence will need to be on their guard to stop the many avenues to goal for the Lions.
Jamie Jones, James Milne, Jake Rennie, Jesse Beckhurst and Shane Kay will be some of the players Chapman looks to for inspiration, while the Cecchin boys and Chris Oliver are others that need to fire for the visitors to be a chance of victory.
Tip: Stanhope.
MERRIGUM v UNDERA
The reigning premier has improved with each match after a sluggish opening month of the season.
Christian Barnett knows this is a game they must not only win but looked to build up their percentage to close the gap on the teams above them on the ladder.
The return of Daniel Clarke to the team has given the Doggies much needed experience and polish while Bryce Wellington and Chris Kilmartin will be out to feast on the dominance of their midfield today.
Matthew Cordy, Keelan Mitchell, Zac Brian, Christopher Gledhill, Jack Hajro and Elliott Bailey will be the players trying to continue to help the Lions improve each game.
Tip: Merrigum.
In other matches, Nagambie and Avenel should be able to consolidate its place inside the top two with wins against Ardmona and Rushworth.
