NAGAMBIE v AVENEL
This is a real opportunity for Avenel to make a statement ahead of the September action.
The Swans have been in some red hot form of late, dishing out a heavy defeat to one of its rivals and then ending the play-off aspirations of Murchison last weekend.
Todd Heaysman was the star of the win with eight goals while coach, Cameron Gillett provided excellent support.
After an even first half, Nagambie was able to sneak clear of Violet Town to run out comfortable winners.
The reigning premier welcomed back Pat Rattray from injury and he finished the match with five goals.
David Price, Michael Shiels, Hayden Heathcote, Jayden Gleeson, Jack Williams and Harley Taylor-Lloyd were other key contributors to step up their output in the second half.
For Avenel, the usual suspects of Donald Stirling, Cael McCarthy, Scott McKenzie, Ashley Neville, Michael Morgan and Paul Arandt were the shining lights that helped end Murchison’s season.
TALLYGAROOPNA v VIOLET TOWN
This is a real danger game for the sixth placed Violet Town.
They will play finals, but Sean Horsburgh will be demanding more of the same that his players dished out in the first half against Nagambie.
Greg Dyer, Tim Ross, Samuel Poole, Matthew Davies and Robert Staff were the guys who tried to inspire the Towners.
Tallygaroopna have enjoyed some success this year and they will be keen to end the year on a positive note.
Douglas Wren, Nathan Kerr, Timothy Belford, Aaron Wood and Ash Matthes were the shining lights in the loss to Stanhope while Chris Earles was outstanding with six goals.
THREE THINGS WE LEARNED
1. The battle for the goal-kicking award is still alive with Matt Forys and Brent Chapman both in contention to win it.
2. Merrigum will welcome the last round challenge against Lancaster after some soft victories of late.
3. Despite limping to the finals, Violet Town has the opportunity to tune up for them with Murchison out of the race.
OTHER
In the remainder of the matches for the round, Undera travel down the road to take on Ardmona; Merrigum host Girgarre; Murchison end its season by hosting Longwood and neighbours Rushworth and Stanhope do battle at Ironbark Stadium.
My tips: Stanhope, Murchison, Merrigum, Undera, Nagambie and Violet Town.
