As the countdown to the finals continues, the round of matches today will have no bearing on the composition of the top six.
Five of the six matches to be played this afternoon involving the top echelon of teams taking on the teams out of contention.
The match between neighbouring rival s – Merrigum and Lancaster will be the pick of the bunch.
While the Bulldogs can’t play finals, they will still be keen to get one up on the Wombats.
A victory for the Bulldogs will go a little way to easing the disappointment of not figuring in the plays offs.
Lancaster was able to end a run of defeats when it proved too strong for Undera.
Jody Rennie will be delighted that her girls will get two tough hit-outs before its likely elimination final match-up with Tallygaroopna.
Rushworth travel the short distance to Nagambie and the Tigers will be looking to continue its late season form which has yielded four wins on the trot.
Today’s challenge against the reigning premier and current ladder leader will be a good test for the Tigers.
The Lakers welcomed back some key players to the fold last week and I expect them to continue their charge towards the finals with a win over the Tigers.
Avenel make the long trip to take on Girgarre and I expect the Swans to present a tough challenge for the home team.
The Swans have been particularly ruthless of late, showing little mercy for their opponents on the run home to the finals.
They are a well drilled and a very physical team and the Girgarre girls will find it tough to match the visitors.
In the remaining three matches, Stanhope make the short trek down the road to take on Ardmona, Tallygaroopna will be out to protect its hold on third spot when it plays Undera and Violet Town takes on its neighbour Longwood.
Tips: Violet Town, Tallygaroopna, Stanhope, Avenel, Nagambie and Lancaster.
