First game since Round 3PORT Adelaide midfield gun Shaun Burgoyne has picked the perfect weekend to mark his return to football -- Rivalry Round. And for South Australians, that means one thing: Showdown!
Burgoyne hasn't played since injuring his knee in the Power's Round 3 win over Melbourne. He had resumed training three weeks ago and, according to coach Mark Williams, will make his return to senior ranks on Sunday.
"He'll play," Williams said. "He's just an outstanding player, he's trained for the last three weeks and he's been doing lots and lots of aerobic stuff away from the track as well. He's not going to play huge game-time but we're thinking 50 per cent of Shaun Burgoyne is better than 70 per cent of someone else."
While that was good news for Burgoyne, the news wasn't so flash for brother Peter, who won't get a recall after being dropped for the clash against West Coast last round.
Williams said Peter needed a few weeks playing in the SANFL to regain some touch despite his outstanding record in previous Showdowns.
"I said (Peter would be) two or three weeks and it will be; it's not just a one-game affair and (he's) fully focused on that," Williams said. "(This week is) the most encouraging selection for our team to have some genuine options to pick from."
