Adelaide to print player names on Heritage Round jumperWHO could forget former Adelaide forward Troy Bond's stirring goal celebrations during the Crows' surge past St Kilda in the 1997 AFL Grand Final? That, and its back-to-back flags, are but one of many highlights in the leading club's 18-year existence. Bond's name, and of all its current and former players including the 10 Indigenous players, will grace the South Australian club's guernsey in the AFL's Heritage Round later this month.
The unique jumper pays respect to all the players who have represented the club since its AFL inception in 1991. It will also serve as a reminder to the current squad of the tradition of the club they represent.
Alongside each players' name will be their club debut number, and the jumper will also carry the date of Round 17's Showdown XXVII, the name given to Adelaide-Port Adelaide clashes.
The Aboriginal players' names which will be on the club's Heritage Round jumper are (former players) Bond (58 games) Ronnie Burns (20), Eddie Hocking (11), Ricky O'Loughlin (9) and Shane Tongerie (4), and (current players) Andrew McLeod (318), Graham Johncock (159), Jonathon Griffin (30), Jared Petrenko (9) and Jarrhan Jacky (3). (Current squad member Tony Armstrong has yet to make his AFL debut.)
* Crows members and supporters can purchase one of these limited edition guernseys from the Crows Shop at West Lakes. Later, 22 Crows supporters will get the rare chance to own one of the genuine numbered and personally signed match-worn jumpers in an online auction from Monday, July 28.
