Round 3 to start this weekendTHE Tiwi Islands Football League has started playing its first dry season competition with teams set to begin Round 3 this weekend.
As reported in
AboriginalFootball previously, the TIFL announced it will play its first dry season competition after the 2008/09 season was ruined by heavy rains, making many of the islands' main roads unsafe to travel on.
That meant just four games were played last season from October to the half-way point in January.
This prompted the TIFL to reschedule a round-robin, seven-match series plus finals that culminated in a grand final in March, won by Tapalinga over Imalu, a reversal of the previous season's result.
Plans to restart a new season, which received backing from within the TIFL's clubs and officials, failed to materialise in April and May but now a four-month season looks likely with a set of fixtures released to the clubs.
Muluwurri, Pumarali, Tuyu and Tapalinga have played between one and two matches already with Walama and Ranku set to meet tomorrow. Only Imalu have yet to play a game.
