Panthers deny Territorians fifth straight winTHE NT Thunder's rollicking roll has been stopped by QAFL leaders Morningside at the weekend, but not without a fight. The Michael McLean-coached side pushed, prodded and poked the league's pacesetters in their match in Cairns but they fell short by a credible 21 points, 17.8 (110) to 13.11 (89).
The Thunder were on a four-game winning streak and could have joined the Panthers with the same win-loss ratio had they won. However, they are well entrenched in the top five of the 10-team league at 6-4 and with a healthy percentage ahead of Darryl White's Mt Gravatt and Brisbane Lions, which are also at 6-4.
Junior Thunder silenced, tooMeanwhile, the NT Thunder under-18s side has suffered a shock loss to NSW/ACT in their national championship match at ANZ Stadium in Sydney on Saturday night.
The young northerners adapted late to the slippery conditions, the curtain-raiser to the Sydney Swans-Collingwood match. The Thunder lost to the Rams by eight points, 12.10 (82) to 11.8 (74).
