Strongest, Hardest, Highest, Fastest Game on Earth
INDIGENOUS footballers have taken centre stage in the AFL's new 2009 season commercial. The
In A League Of Its Own ad features AFL players set on some of world sports' biggest stages, including in the NFL’s Super Bowl, European soccer and in the Spanish bullring. In it, the players display the skills that differentiate Australian football from other sports. It is billed as the 'Strongest, Hardest, Highest, Fastest Game on Earth'.
The AFL's general manager of marketing and commercial operations, Andrew Dillon, said:
In A League Of Its Own will not only appeal to existing AFL fans but also a broader sports audience. With the AFL expanding into new and diverse markets, it is important to ignite the interest of those new to the game by showcasing the truly spectacular nature of Australian football -- the high marking, speed, strength and endurance of the players."
The action begins for the Indigenous players when Aaron Davey (Melbourne) accepts a handpass on an NBA court; he then kicks a short pass to a player in the key-way. The action then shows Adam Goodes (Sydney) accepting a handpass on a horse-racing track, which looks like the Kentucky Darby, in the US.
It then shifts to an ice rink in the National Hockey League where Leon Davis (Collingwood) dives in for a contested ball. Later, Daniel Wells (North Melbourne) accepts a handpass on a European soccer pitch, dodges a few players then fires a pass to Lance Franklin in front of the net. The setting then transforms to the MCG, where Franklin brushes aside two Essendon players and has a shot on goal from the boundary line.
The campaign launches with a 60-second version of the ad then will continue throughout the season with two 30-second versions, print, outdoor and digital content.
