Young Hawk elevated to club's senior list
CAMERON STOKES came within a whisker of playing in last year's AFL Grand Final.
The Hawthorn youngster played nine games in his debut season, four of which from Rounds 18 to 22 and he was a late call-up for the Hawks' qualifying final against Western Bulldogs. Not bad for a rookie in his first season.
But a tightness in his hamstring at training following that game meant his movements were restricted and he relinquished his spot in the 22 that eventually claimed the premiership.
And while nothing in football is ever guaranteed, Stokes' elevation from the Hawks' rookie list to the senior list yesterday highlights his value to the club.
The 19-year-old was one of six AFL rookies elevated yesterday, the only Indigenous player among them.
