Top Tiwi teams line up for another classic
IT may be the culmination of just seven home-and-away matches and three finals but Sunday's grand final between Imalu and Tapalinga at Nguiu's redeveloped Tiwi Oval on the Tiwi Islands will be deadly serious.
The game pits last year's premiership season grand finalists against each other yet again and is a replay of the second semi-final of the Tiwi Islands Football League's abridged wet season competition, ahead of the league's first proper dry season which is thought to begin sometime next month.
The ferrys are booked, planeloads are coming from all over and Ted Whitten jnr and Kevin Sheedy are among the invited guests to see the Tigers and the Superstars engage in what shapes as another classic.
The controversy following the league's first semi-final -- where Ranku and also Muluwurri field players not theirs -- was resolved. It saw the Eagles, who had beaten the Magpies, take on Tapalinga at the weekend, where the Superstars prevailed.
* ABC TV will broadcast the game around Australia from 3pm.
