The now-biennial championships will see the eight States and Territories compete in two divisions and games will be played over four 20-minute quarters. Previously, the Championships were held annually and played in one division, with two 20-minute halves.
Division 1 will consist of WA, Victoria, Queensland and the ACT. Division 2 will welcome newcomers Tasmania alongside New South Wales, Northern Territory and South Australia. (Participants must be 15 years of age to play.)
The divisional round-robin games will be played at Claremont Oval, East Fremantle Oval, Fremantle Oval and Steel Blue Oval (Bassendean).

This will be the first time the championships will been run through a collaborative and comprehensive partnership between the key development body of the State, AFL, Women’s League volunteers and other bodies. The previous 16 championships have been run by volunteers from the women's league in the host State and Territory.

Debbie Lee is the president of the Victorian Women's Football League. She has played over 200 games, represented Australia three times against Ireland in 2004, '06 and '07, was judged Victoria's best player five times.
At the end of the Championships, an All-Australian team will be selected by a panel headed by chair Ken Spencer, Jo Davies (East Perth DFDC chair), Charmaine Rogers (Life Member and former State player of the WAWFL), Terry Dean (Life Member of the WAFC, South Fremantle Football Club), John Cooper (Life Member of the WAFL and Swans District Football Club), Matt Peach (SDFC football manager) and Bec Phoenix (Life Member of the WAWFL).
