Third-year player picked for clash with Essendon
ALBERT PROUD’s 23-day club-sanctioned suspension is over and he will play for the Brisbane Lions in Melbourne tomorrow night.
Coach Michael Voss tonight said he was impressed with the 20-year-old's attitude after he was banned from playing for the Indigenous All-Stars and Round 1 of the NAB Cup after being charged with assault arising from an incident on the Gold Coast last month.
"We've completed what we needed to do and Albert's been training with us for a little bit now," Voss said. "We deemed that we'd gone as far as we needed to go and that's where we've come to.
"I don't think he's been on top of the world, to put it that way, but he's obviously aware of what's happened What we're very impressed with is the way the way he's gone about his business. He's really stepped up over the pre-season and at some point there was going to be a point where we needed to get him going again and we thought this was the appropriate time."

Statement from Brisbane Lions
"THE Brisbane Lions AFC wishes to advise the club suspension handed down to third-year player Albert Proud on Wednesday, February 4, 2009, has been completed and he will be playing in the Round 2 NAB Cup match against Essendon this Friday night at Telstra Dome in Melbourne.
"Following the Lions' own investigation he has been disciplined in accordance with the club's Code of Conduct for breaching the standards of behaviour expected from all Brisbane Lions players. The Lions and AFL view this matter extremely seriously and have consulted heavily to arrive at appropriate club-imposed penalties.
"Proud remains deeply regretful over the incident that resulted in an injury to a female patron at a Gold Coast bar in late January this year. The matter is still subject to criminal proceedings so the club is unable to make any further comment."
