Jumper designs in keeping with Territory traditions
THE Northern Territory Football Club's colours are reflective of the region's tradition and vibrancy, said the club's general manager Stuart Totham at the launch of the Thunder's AFLQ guernseys in Darwin on Thursday.
The clash jumper designs are a departure from traditional football designs. They feature ochre and a lightning bolt through the middle.
"We always knew black, white and ochre would be the key colours of the club because they are traditional Territory colours," Totham said. "When we started working through the designs we had to make sure we didn't clash with the other clubs. So we wanted a clash guernsey (yellow) and one we would be wearing most of the time (black).
"The end result was we made two jumpers we think will work really well by balancing tradition with something new, fresh and exciting that people will get on board with."
The Thunder has a prominent Indigenous component. Its inaugural coach is Aboriginal football legend, Michael McLean. And its squad of 60, training in Darwin and Alice Springs, is around 80 per cent Indigenous.
The Thunder's first game is against Queensland football giants Southport on Saturday, April 4.
