'Thunder' chosen for Majo's team's nickname
THE fans have spoken and the Northern Territory Football Club will adopt the Thunder moniker.
The decision was announced by the club's general manager, Stuart Totham, who said the name was a strong brand associated with NT football.
The territory's elite youth program is called Territory Thunder with which the senior side will create a permanent link to.
The new club's first train-on squad -- 61 in total; 40 from the Darwin-based NTFL and 21 from the AFL Central Australia competition -- was announced last week and contains a sizeable Indigenous contingent, including several players at the top of their game.
AFLCA's 2008 fairest-and-best Joe Cole, from Pioneer, was among those from Alice Springs selected. He is currently playing for Darwin Buffaloes in the Top End's league's 2008/09 season.
Southern Districts playing-coach Shannon Rusca was named and is among a handful of experienced campaigners selected.
He said he was happy to be included.
"I got in so I'm a bit of a show (for selection)," Rusca said.
"I'm looking forward to it all but competition will be strong because blokes will be going all out to claim spots."
Totham expects the NTFC's guernsey, club colours and logo to be unveiled by the end of next month.
