'Majo' chucks hat into the ring as Territory footy goes interstate
FORMER Brisbane and Footscray great Michael McLean has applied to coach the Northern Territory team which will play in the AFL Queensland State league from next year.
The NTFL Southern Districts mentor is among a number of candidates who have applied for the post.
McLean was assistant coach to Leigh Matthews at Brisbane following his AFL retirement in 1997. He led AFL Queensland club Redlands for a time and has been at the helm of Southern Districts since 2004, winning a premiership with the Crocs in the 2006/07 season.
The new NT team will play Queensland club powerhouse, Southport, in Darwin in Round 1 of the new 2009 season.
It will be the first time Territory football has ventured interstate.
The coach of the NT team is expected to be named as early as next week.
