Big crowd packs in at Subiaco Oval to see return of Interntational Rules
AUSTRALIA'S Matthew Campbell could be forgiven for wanting Subiaco Oval to swallow him up after fluffing a penalty shot early in last night's thrilling First Test in the International Rules series with Ireland.
The North Melbourne forward had the chance to score Australia's first six-pointer (back of the net) when he was brought down in the penalty box, only to see his attempt from the spot roll meekly straight towards the Irish 'keeper.
But Campbell more than redeemed himself with some clever play and two 'overs' for his country as 35,153 fans watched a contest seemingly over at three-quarter-time.
Australia rallied in the final term from a game-high 17 points down to fall short by one, 0.12.8 (44) to 3.6.9 (45), setting up an exciting end to the series in Melbourne next Friday night.
